Shadow people are supernatural beings or creatures that, unlike ghosts, do not possess human features. A feeling of dread often accompanies reports of encounters with shadow people, and the forms do not attempt to communicate or provide a feeling as being in the presence of something that was once living. They are commonly described as two-dimensional with erratic movements. If eyes are mentioned, they are commonly glowing and red. Pareidolia, hypnagogia, chemical agents (narcotics), electromagnetic fields, and neurological conditions are some of the scientific explanations given to shadow people sightings.
