Lazarus syndrome is a medical condition where a patient who has been declared dead by doctors experiences a spontaneous return of circulation. Medical literature has documented at least twenty-five instances of the syndrome since 1982. Examples include a person being declared dead and being taken to the morgue, only to be found alive and breathing shortly thereafter. Doctors can thus be faced with a dilemma for when to determine that medical death has occurred in a patient, and that post-mortem activities can begin to take place.
